Carbon

Wolf Carbon constructed and operates the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL) system – the world’s newest integrated large-scale carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) system. As of January 2021, the ACTL had safely delivered one million tonnes of CO₂ to permanent storage.

Wolf Carbon is focused on reducing carbon emissions through the development of new world-scale CO₂ infrastructure in both Canada and abroad.

About the ACTL system

ACTL is a new, fully-integrated, world-scale Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage system which captures, transports and permanently sequesters CO₂ that would otherwise be emitted to atmosphere. Wolf is the owner and operator of the system’s compression facilities at  two independent capture sites, as well as the 240-kilometre ACTL pipeline that safely transports CO₂ from the capture sites to mature oil fields in Central Alberta for secure storage and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects.

Designed as the backbone infrastructure needed to support Alberta’s lower carbon transition, ACTL is capable of transporting up to 14.6 million tonnes of CO₂ per year. This represents approximately 20% of all current oil sands emissions or equal to the impact of capturing the CO₂ from more than 4 million cars per year.

The ACTL system is the foundation of an expandable network capable of facilitating many carbon mitigation options for emitters over the long term. ACTL will support significant future emissions solutions, new utilization pathways and innovation in the carbon capture space.

New Opportunities

There is un-utilized, readily available capacity on the ACTL pipeline and Wolf is seeking new sources of CO₂ supply to service CO₂ Enhanced Oil Recovery growth along the ACTL route. Wolf has significant expertise in process design and project execution and can assist you in evaluating capture and compression solutions. As an infrastructure partner, we bring experience and capital for the development of capture, compression, and pipeline infrastructure. Our team has a deep understanding of the carbon credit generation process for creating and monetizing carbon offset credits through CCUS.
